Middle Georgia College has been teaching engineering courses for more than 60 years We have a long history with good working
relationships and close ties to several senior colleges, including Georgia Institute of Technology, Auburn University,
Mercer University, Southern Polytechnic University, and the University of Georgia. MGC and Georgia Tech have a transfer
agreement initiated by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents called the Regents Engineering Transfer Program (RETP).
There are 14 different engineering programs of study at MGC including Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical
Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering,
Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, and Textile Engineering.
There are, however, many common courses among these fourteen programs. If you are not sure which type of engineering in
which you would like to major, then you might choose to stay in the General Engineering program of study. This would
prepare you for almost any senior college engineering major. However, there is not a four-year degree in General
Engineering. Please remember that you will have to decide on a specific major when you apply to a senior college. You
should give priority to engineering, mathematics, and science courses when you are preparing each of your semester schedules.
As soon as you feel capable, you should consider taking a full load of academic courses each semester. Because we offer a
large variety of engineering courses, most engineering students stay at MGC for about two years before transferring.
Remember, all senior colleges do not offer all of the various engineering majors. Georgia Tech and Auburn offer most of
the well-known majors. The University of Georgia offers only Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Mercer offers
Biomedical, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, you may be interested in transferring to
some engineering senior college other than the four mentioned above. We will be glad to help you plan a program of
study—all you will have to do is bring us a catalog from the school you would like to attend.
